THE ART OF VENICE: A POEM TO ACCOMPANY JULIE ADLARD'S ARTWORK...

The Art of Venice

High ancient buildings soar away
From the depths of a murky canal basin,
Coercing a blue sky to daub
Rich reflections of their walls therein;
Dappled sunlight, black gondolas awry,
Gold bricks like treasure lie
In an unfocused dreamy sway,
Rendering the mind contrite;
Delving into history’s lament and pity,
Slim windows blink from their antiquity,
A ‘toy’ bridge weeps across time,
Light steps hint at humanity,
Whose absence is surely no crime…

A couple of my images from a visit to Venice compare favourably with Julie Adlard’s artwork…
