REDSHANK AT PADSTOW: A NEW POEM...

Redshank At Padstow…

The pushing, the poking and the persevering
Along the ragged shoreline
Of the River Camel’s wide estuary
Had been forcibly curtailed
By the tide’s rush, interfering
With the Redshank’s feeding ritual;
Yet the deepening channel had failed
To perturb, the wader, which stood
Precariously, pedantically and purposefully
Upon a small outcrop of rock,
Preening, paddling and perusing
With eager eye and needling bill:
Poignant, pert and perverse,
Yet neat, alert and profoundly endearing…
