“This season is going to be a little bit different with the virus going round and there will be some aspects of the game affected. However, looking at the positives, we've been training for eight weeks and the lads’ attitudes were fantastic, the work rate was really good and the new signings have settled in well.
We’ve got a busy pre-season coming up too, starting with the Central Ajax match. They are a really good side and Tom Coles is a good manager and knows what he's doing. We’ve got the likes of FC Stratford, Danny Janes' side, next week and that's probably our toughest game. He's a really good manager and the calibre of players he has signed are good enough to win Midland League 2.
Regarding, the new season, we will play in the Stratford Upon Avon Alliance Division 1. It's a tough league as there are some decent teams involved.
We moved up from Division 2, where we finished top. We will challenge for the league this year as I think on paper we’ve got the best team in the group in terms of quality.
Last season we had the best attack, scoring 99 goals across all competitions and we only lost one game at home. Mani Singh and Aidan Booth led the attack and they scored 50 goals between them. We will looking to retain the County Cup and get into two cup finals.
We knew against Ajax it was going to be a tough game but I thought it was an entertaining game. We didn't start well as Ajax had couple of chances in the first 5 minutes but we grew into the match and we could've been 1-0 up when Mani Singh had an opportunity.
We switched off for their two goals, as they came from set-pieces and we should've done better. In terms of shape we looked good, as I think we matched them but in terms of quality I thought Ajax were at another level. They played two-touch football which made it hard for us in the first-half.
We had chances throughout the game though and on another day it could easily have been a draw. But overall I was pleased with the performance and we will look to build from this game in Thursday night’s friendly against Shipston.
I wish all the best to Colesy and Ajax for the upcoming season.
This year we taking things seriously and the management will look to bring success to this club…”
