COVENTRY COLLIERY 1-0 CENTRAL AJAX: THE VIEWS OF THE TWO CLUBS...

 Coventry Colliery:

"Firstly we would like to say thank you to the players and coaches at Central Ajax for an entertaining game of football which was played in the correct manner. For us it was a good challenge playing against a side from the MFL with good movement and ability on the ball.

BLAKE ARTHUR & CALLUM REGAN...

I felt we matched them when out of possession and limited them to only a few chances. In terms of taking control of the game we did that, especially in the second period up until the final moments.

In terms of possession it was very close over the 90 minutes but our threat around goal was far greater. On the whole we were pleased with the performance and the result."

Central Ajax:

"We’ve now completed our 4th pre-season game of the summer at Colliery and we are still progressing well towards September 5th and our first league game against Welland.

Thanks to Kev Wagstaff and his team over at Colliery, it was a good test for us and overall it was a good game of football. There were plenty of positives for both teams but there were also passages of play which both teams would like to get back, I’m sure. Colliery have a really good set up at Hawkes Mill and they played some nice football and will be hopeful of a successful season no doubt.

We fielded another much-changed team due to availability and being let down by one player at 12.15pm but it gave further opportunities for Calum Thomas, Manny Atugo, Mike Jefferson and James Pedley who had all done well for our reserve team on Thursday night.

CALUM THOMAS...

The most frustrating part for any of us during the summer is availability and injuries and we’ve now lost Shaye Eden and Reece Homer to the latter. Our skipper Lew Fathers has also missed all of pre-season with a knee injury. These three are really influential players for us so hopefully we can get them back out on the pitch in September.

On a positive note it was really pleasing to get Tom Daniels back playing for us after suffering a serious knee injury las August. Still early stages for him but those 15 minutes would have done him the world of good.

We now move on to our first home pre-season game next Saturday against a very good Studley outfit which will be a really stern test for us."
