“I wasn’t actually in the dugout for the Bretforton match, as I had left the managing duties to my assistant Rich Layton, 1st Team Coach Robbie Rock (red shirt, who has just moved over from Dublin to coach at Ajax!) and Reserve Manager Adam Maltby. I thought it was a good opportunity for them to take the reins.
We were grateful to Bretforton for hosting us for our 2nd pre-season friendly and were impressed by their ever-improving facilities and their immaculate pitch. Our first two friendlies were always about getting the lads from both senior teams back playing and we’ve managed to get 29 of our players some minutes on the field.
REECE HOMER SPRAWLS AT BRETFORTON...
Our 1st half play on Tuesday was pleasing as we generally kept the ball quite well and we were patient in possession and in the 2nd half I felt the side created some good opportunities, in particular through Dale Francis down the right side.
It was also great to finally see Sam Hood and Harry Jones play for us after stepping up from our U17s squad. Both have trained well all summer and we are looking forward to seeing them improve during the season
JACK KEELING'S FREE-KICK FORCES AN OWN-GOAL AT BRETFORTON...
We have a tough pre-season schedule ahead of us now as we play the Coventry Alliance version of Coventry Copsewood, Barnt Green Spartak, Willenhall and Studley. All will give us stern tests and that will be great for our fitness levels.
JARED RANDALL HEADS A GOAL AT BRETFORTON...
We’ve added players to both squads during the summer and although we lost a couple of good players, we’ve managed to bring in others such as Jared Randall and Freddy Murphy, who will add quality and competition to our existing playing squad.
Centre-half Keiran Downey is also great addition to our backline and has slotted into the club straight away. There had been some nonsense around his fitness flying around but he’s been working hard and has already shown us his ability in the two games he has played so far and will no doubt improve us defensively.
We are also looking forward to our two 18 year old forwards, Reece Homer and Shaye Eden having full seasons with us. Both performed well for us last season and we are lucky to keep hold of them. Unfortunately Shaye broke his wrist last Saturday against Crown FMN and we aren’t sure just yet on the timing of his return.
REECE HOMER FIRES WIDE AT BRETFORTON...
As for the season ahead, we are one of 16 teams in Division 3 who have been training hard but we have made improvements to our squad and are hopeful of success this term.
Our own hope is to actually start the season and we hope everyone remains safe and vigilant with the guidelines, so we can all enjoy grassroots football for the whole season.
Anything else would just be a bonus…”
