LEDBURY'S WAR MEMORIAL: A NEW POEM BY THE MOWDOG...

 Ledbury’s Mosaic Infantryman

No drama is illustrated

Within the mosaic,

No thirst for enemy blood is sated,

Merely the gaze of the stoic…

No Roman legionary is feted

Within the mosaic,

No slaying of enemies is demonstrated,

Merely the aura of the heroic…

The infantryman stands removed from a trench

Within the mosaic,

Poignant, seeing beyond death’s stench

In humility, with a countenance prosaic…

Ledbury’s war memorial shows not only a soldier in the tesserae of its mosaic but also a sailor, plus an image of a World War II pilot formed of four tiles.

The whole memorial has been refurbished and looks so effective in the main street…
