Sennen Awash
(from the painting by ANYA SIMMONS…)
Chunky vessels toss and tumble,
Awash beside the harbour wall,
A stern, stark construction
Depicted like a bus in multicolour cubism
About to shatter, splinter and crumble
Like a fractured refracting prism
Onto the myriad boats upon the sunlit beach;
And surf rollicks and frolics to reach
Them and drag them, scraping
Into a tumult gushing and gaping,
To corral them in an ocean’s watery trawl…
And the capstan house lies stoic
At the rear of the scene,
Its heritage assured, yet its historic
Function is recalled, its perspective serene;
And the storm lashed wall lies lugubrious,
Camouflaged to stage right, solidly grim,
Protective and sullen, yet its callous
Function is reserved, out on a limb…
