Stiff, frozen washing forms
Forlorn bunting across an unshuttered window
And peeps just inside
At a Christmas tree, its colours aglow
And the impression is one of uncompromising cold…
Stark, high weathered walls
Are worn, smarting at winter’s chilling blow
And steep, they preside
Over the littered, clinging December snow
And the impression is one of secrets untold…
