'PANDEMIC PAUSE FOR CHRISTMAS': MY POEM TO ACCOMPANY KIRSTY ELSON'S DECEMBER IMAGE FROM HER 2020 CALENDAR...

 Pandemic Pause For Christmas…

(from the December image within Kirsty Elson's 2020 calendar…)

The streetlight hangs its unlit head,

The post-box leans, irrelevant and incongruous,

Whilst a row of dwellings, worn and inconspicuous

Seem cramped and dishevelled from winter’s dread…

The chimneys are angled, dull as nails,

The ice shimmers, insolent and capricious,

Whilst a seasonal wreath, suspended and portentous

Whispers ‘Christmas’ through a blizzard’s gales…

Humanity, locked down, remains undetectable,

Whilst the pandemic, virulent, remains infallible…

November 6th, 2020…

The image made me think about how Christmas might feel this year, due to the ruining and continuing presence of Covid-19…
