ST MINVER v FOXHOLE STARS: THE MATCH PREVIEW...

 MATCH PREVIEW:

EAST CORNWALL PREMIER LEAGUE CUP SEMI-FINAL,

ST MINVER v FOXHOLE STARS…

This will be my first visit to St Minver's Trewint Lane ground, taking the short drive from The Merrymoor in Mawgan Porth to check out league leaders St Minver and Foxhole Stars, who currently lie 5th in the divisional standings.

TREWINT LANE...

To reach this cup semi-final, St Minver had a bye in the round of 16, then defeated St Cleer at home by 3-0 in their quarter-final, with a hat-trick of goals by the game’s MVP, Steven Wootton.

Foxhole’s round of 16 match was one which produced 11 goals, the Stars winning 5-6 at St Newlyn East AFC. Tyler Cheshire netted 4 times and was voted the game’s MVP, whilst Ollie Deadman nabbed a brace.

The resounding 8-1 quarter-final win v Plymouth Marjon 2nds was quite a triumph for MVP Cheshire, who accumulated 6 goals on the day, whilst Jack Boardman and Jowan Dingle filched the other two.

In the league, St Minver have won 14, drawn 1 and lost 2 of their 17 games, amassing 43 points with a goal-difference of +30. In the league they have scored 49 times at an average of 2.9 goals per game and have conceded just 19 at an average of 1.1 per match.

Stars have won 10, drawn 1 and lost 7 of their 18 outings, totalling 31 points with a goal difference of +6. In the league they have scored 34 times at an average of 1.9 per game and have conceded 28 at an average of 1.6.

Thus the statistics point to St Minver having been far more lethal in attack than Foxhole but in this competition of course, Stars have netted 14 times in just two ties…

The recent form of St Minver…

Following a 2-3 win at St Teath, where Wootton, Rob Green and MVP Jon May scored the goals, the Blues were held to a 0-0 draw at Looe Town. Mike Kempthorne was chosen as the team’s MVP on the day.

STEVE WOOTTON: SCORED AT ST TEATH...

Next, Newquay Academy were thumped 6-1 at home, with Ed Green snatching a hat-trick from a defensive position, MVP Jordan Stone scored twice and Josh Caddy added another goal in the 90th minute.

JOSH CADDY: A LATE GOAL AT NEWQUAY...

Two more home matches followed, first a 5-0 rout of St Blazey Reserves, the goals coming from MVP Caddy with a hat-trick, Kempthorne and a 91st minute strike by Adrian Ashton. Finally, a close affair saw the hosts sneak a 1-0 victory against St Newlyn East AFC, courtesy of a 70th minute goal by Ed Green. The MVP was Ben Hurst…

Leading scorers for the Blues are currently Ed Green with 9, Caddy with 8 and Wootton with 7…

ED GREEN: LEADING GOALSCORER...

Foxhole’s current form…

COURTNEY ROWE: SCORED AT LOOE...

Looe Town were recently defeated 2-5 on the road, where the game’s MVP Cheshire scored three times, whilst Levi Kerrigan and Courtney Rowe completed the scoring, then Stars were grateful to Jack Boardman in deciding the next two encounters. First he netted the winner v St Blazey Reserves and then sniped the only goal at St Stephen, where Josh Andrews was chosen as his team’s MVP.

TYLER CHESHIRE: LEADING SCORER...

Next Foxhole won 2-4 at St Cleer, with goals by Cheshire 2, Jowan Dingle and Lee Rickard but then a 0-2 home defeat was suffered, as visitors Torpoint Athletic 3rds took the victory. Aidan Dingle was voted as Stars’ MVP.

JACK BOARDMAN: WINNERS v ST BLAZEY RES & ST STEPHEN...

Leading scorers for Foxhole are Cheshire (of course) with 22 and Jack Boardman with 7.
