Steaming Rock At Mawgan Porth…
The sun slipped below a bank of grey cloud:
A huge, amber disc suspended,
Hovering, casting pastel hues
Of pallid orange, yellows and a firm peach.
As it slunk away from its grim, grey shroud
It lowered, firing its flaming heat to reach
An outcrop of rock, rendered
And silhouetted black by evening’s ruse…
Then like a blacksmith’s hammer the sun smashed
Onto the stone, as rising waves around it crashed
And the sun scorched the surf to charcoal
And rested upon the defenceless slab, whole…

Sunset at Mawgan Porth, 17th March 2022.
From my viewing angle, the sun seemed to drop slowly from a cloud and as it hovered over a slab of rock, waves rose high and were turned grey like filthy steam against the huge orange disc…
