STEAMING ROCK AT MAWGAN PORTH...

 Steaming Rock At Mawgan Porth…

The sun slipped below a bank of grey cloud:

A huge, amber disc suspended,

Hovering, casting pastel hues

Of pallid orange, yellows and a firm peach.

As it slunk away from its grim, grey shroud

It lowered, firing its flaming heat to reach

An outcrop of rock, rendered

And silhouetted black by evening’s ruse…

Then like a blacksmith’s hammer the sun smashed

Onto the stone, as rising waves around it crashed

And the sun scorched the surf to charcoal

And rested upon the defenceless slab, whole…
