Tricky drops gum into a team-mate's hair... |
"With the debacle of the Shawbury game finally being decided on Wednesday by the FA, we knew we would be facing Lichfield on what turned out to be a blistering affair.
The conditions weren't brilliant today with a very strong wind affecting any balls in the air. This probably suited us however which seemed the case in the opening exchanges with Coventry having the majority of possession, albeit with very few chances created.
It took a 25 yard strike from myself cutting in from the right to break the deadlock.
Apart from a few nasty challenges, which received bookings for both sides, there wasn't much else to note in the first 45 minutes.
In the second-half we continued to pile on the pressure, getting an early goal from Matty Brown, tapping home the rebound from Antonio Williams' ferocious strike from just inside the box.
We probably sat back after that, thinking the tie was over but Lichfield didn't give in and pulled one back from a set-piece out wide, being converted by their big striker.
Coventry then sprang into life and the introduction of Kev Thornton swung the game back in our favour. With some excellent intricate football, myself and Muzzi got on the end of passes from Kev to find the net and put the tie to bed.
A late Kev Thornton penalty probably flattered us slightly with a 4 goal margin but in fact we never really looked like losing this game.
On to Bedworth now, which I'm sure will be a great game, in what is Coventry United's first ever FA Cup adventure..."
