AFC BINLEY MANAGER EDWIN GREAVES REPORTS ON HIS TEAM'S 2-0 WIN v COVENTRY COLLIERY RESERVES...

"Coventry Colliery Reserves got the game underway and had a couple of long range shots which went high or wide.

Their first shot on target was in the 8th minute when Ryan Oldham saved well.

We gradually responded and in the 20th minute Paul Govier beat 2 Colliery players before shooting wide.
In the 36th minute Paul Govier went on a run before crossing for Blake Kassar to score with a lovely flick: 1-0."

Half-time: 1-0.

"The 2nd half started with us passing better in the poor conditions and controlling the game more.

In the 57th minute Tyler Morgan beat his defender and cut inside, his shot was aiming for the top corner when the Colliery goalkeeper produced the save of the game to deny him.

On 67 minutes Tyler Morgan was replaced by Tatenda Bako.

In the 75th minute Travis Smallwood was replaced by Kyle Metcalfe.

After 79 minutes Tatenda Bako forced another save from the Colliery goalkeeper.

In the 81st minute, Paul Govier was replaced by Curtis Smallwood.

In the 82nd minute Andy Godfrey doubled our lead with a long range left foot shot from approximately 25 yards which gave the Colliery goalkeeper no chance: 2-0.

We had two more opportunities to score but the Colliery goalkeeper denied first Blake Kassar and secondly Justin Lang."

Full-time: AFC Binley 2-0 Coventry Colliery...

In summing up this game:

"After last week's exciting semi-final game, it was back to league action. With most games in our division called off it was important that we didn't slip up today against a good Colliery side who hadnt played for a while.

This game wasn't the best to watch as both sides had to deal with the difficult conditions but that said, both sides still tried to play football.

In a game of few chances there wasn't a lot to separate the two sides and both goals had to be something special to beat the Colliery goalkeeper who was in fine form today.

You are just happy to see the back of games like this but to get the 3 points and to see a different side of my lads today with their performance, pleases me.

I get the feeling that if the weather doesn't improve soon, more performances like this may be needed.

I would like to finish by wishing all the management and committee at Coventry Colliery all the best for the remainder of the season."

Edwin Greaves

AFC Binley Manager.
