HALLEN FC v BRIDGWATER TOWN:
MATCH PREVIEW…
This weekend brings together Hallen FC and Bridgwater Town for a Toolstation Western League clash at The Hallen Centre. This will be my first visit to the ground; indeed my first time watching Hallen at all.
However I did visit Bridgwater Town around Christmas time in 2008, when Truro nabbed a point in a game wrecked by a theatrical referee. A poem I wrote about his performance is included below, to reflect my thoughts at the time…
17th place Hallen have won 4 times this season, drawing 6 times and losing on 11 occasions in their league campaign. Their goal difference is -20 and they have secured 18 points thus far.
Hallen’s last three outings have been a draw at Cribbs FC (1-1), a draw v Clevedon (2-2) but most recently they were defeated 2-0 at Street FC.
AARON ANGLIN: 9 GOALS... |
Overall they have won 2, drawn 4 and lost 8 on their own patch this season. Their leading goalscorer is Aaron Anglin with 9 conversions and with 25 appearances, Scott Cousins leads the way in that category.
Obviously the Armadillos will need to work hard against mid-table Bridgy to get any reward from this encounter.
Bridgwater lie in 12th position currently, having won 9, drawn 2 and lost 10 of their matches. Their goal-difference is +1 and they have amassed 29 points.
Recently, Town have lost at home to Wellington (1-2), won at Shepton Mallet (0-1) and then in their last game, they lost 0-2 at home to Bitton.
SYD CAMPER: 9 GOALS... |
Top goalscorer is Sydney Camper with 9 strikes (when I Googled his name, I was confronted by Australian winnebago images) but the most appearances for the team this term have been made by gloveman Jake Viney, with 30.
JAKE VINEY: 30 APPEARANCES... |
Overall on the road, Bridgy have won 9 games and lost 7, therefore not recording a draw at all…

There will be a full report, images and hopefully game highlights available on my blog at
from Sunday…
The Mowdog…
Christmas Robins’ Egotist
Christmas, then:
Was it the need to give?
To award,
To celebrate
By posturing,
Searching a pocket
And gesturing
His intolerance
With canary yellow,
Or robin-red,
Declining to debate?
Egotism, then:
Was it the necessity to rule?
To adjudge,
To adjudicate
By superintending,
Admonishing a player
And flaunting
His omnipotence
With intolerable delay,
Or petty rebuke,
Cautioning to berate?

Bridgwater, 27-12-08; Truro the visitors…
The referee was the star-turn, cautioning, explaining ad nauseam, dismissing and totally ruining what could have been a decent football match…
Peperell and Yetton scored for their teams in a 1-1 draw…
