AFC BINLEY'S MANAGER EDWIN GREAVES DISCUSSES PROMOTION & SATURDAY'S WIN @ COVENTRY COLLIERY RESERVES...

"We got the game underway and the early stages was pretty even.

However in the 8th minute we took the lead with our first bit of good play. Travis Smallwood and Danny Vincent combined well before Vincent's cross found Will Waddell, who played the ball back into the box for Steven Young to turn and shoot, giving the Colliery goalkeeper no chance: 0-1.

Colliery responded in fine style and had the ball in our net in the 15th minute only for the goal to be ruled out for offside.

Colliery went even closer in the 21st minute when their number 9 found space but hit the post with his shot. Our goal was leading a bit of a charmed life and Travis Smallwood came to our rescue in the 27th minute, heading off the line.

In the 38th minute Ryan Oldham was forced to make a good save as Colliery continued to force us to defend.

Half-time: Coventry Colliery Res 0-1 AFC Binley...

In the 2nd half Colliery continued on the front foot and again the number 9 had an opportunity but shot over.

Colliery continued to create and miss more opportunities with numbers 9 and 22 shooting wide.
In the 60th minute Ryan Oldham was forced to make a great double save to help us keep our slender lead.

In the 77th minute Will Waddell was replaced by Tyler Morgan.

In a very rare attack for us a Danny Vincent cross was met with a diving header from Fabian Spence but it went just over.

In the 80th minute Colliery created another opportunity but this time the number 16 shot straight at Ryan Oldham.

In the 90th minute we got a throw-in in the Colliery half, Andy Godfrey took it and found Fabian Spence who turned and went on a run before releasing an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the Colliery net: 0-2.

There was still time for one last attack from Colliery in the 92nd minute and this time it was Danny Vincent who came to our rescue by heading off the line."

Full-time: Coventry Colliery Res 0-2 AFC Binley...

In summing up this game:

"Cov Colliery Res will probably be wondering how they didn't get something out of this game, never mind how they managed to lose it.

They had several good opportunities in both halves to score but unfortunately for them it wasn't their day in from of goal.

For me, we spent large periods of this game defending and not through choice.

So Good luck to all at Cov Colliery for the rest of your season.

This was not by any stretch of the imagination a pretty game for us but once again the lads showed that they have what it takes to get the result and the 3 points that we needed for promotion and to add to that, a clean sheet.

It's a great achievement for everyone connected with the club that we have gained promotion out of this division at the 1st attempt.

It's been a very hard division with 4 teams fighting for 2 promotion places for most of the season.
The lads have been very consistent and for us to win 15 out of our last 16 league games shows that, I think...

For us now we just have to wait and see what surprises if any, the rest of the results throw up; we have the points on the board, so I can now relax and enjoy the rest of the season..."
