THE MOUSEHOLE MOORING STONE: A NEW POEM...

The Mousehole Mooring Stone

Scarred, pitted but robust
It leans, the surface gnawed and
Wrapped by heavy duty chain
Coiled, browned by rust, the sand scored and
Stamped by heavy duty strain…

It withstands the haulings
Of vessels moored,
By vicious tides’ tugs of war
And strong gales’ maulings
Of ropes taut
By frantic storms’ furore…

In Mousehole’s harbour…
Solid.
Weathered.

But I liked it…
