THE WEEKLY SHAMIR ALAM INTERVIEW... ANOTHER BIG WIN FOR GNP SPORTS...

Presumably another positive offensive performance yesterday but what pleased you most about the display?

"It was another quick, efficient and relentless performance in the first-half like last week, the only difference being that this time we replicated it in the second-half. We were wasteful at times, missing three chances from a few yards out and also hitting the woodwork a few times. The most pleasing thing was the three points, followed by another clean sheet!"

Were your opponents any threat at all, or did the 1st half dismissal damage them too much?

"They are hard to play against, they have some quick and skilful players but only problem is that there is sometimes a lack of thought about some of the things they do. It’s disappointing to see that they have had a point deducted for playing an ineligible player this season too and we also thought they did the same against us when we won 4-3 against them. So with that said, they got off lightly by just the eleven going past them!"

Leigh Phillips seems to be pushing ahead of Rawlings in the scoring chart now, so what is the current position with Tom?

"The hat-trick certainly helped Leigh and it’s good we now have 6 players all pushing for that GNP golden boot. You have to bear in mind that Leigh has played left-back for at least 6 games and he missed the first 6 games of the season. To be fair though, Tommy only joined in late September and has had injuries along the way. I’m sure both will be rolling their sleeves up for the last 8 games of the season now!"

No midweek game for you but Shush on Saturday, so what are you expecting from the Chelmsley based outfit?

"CT Shush don’t concede many goals and all of their 5 wins have come at home, so they will be another side which will raise its performance levels and want to take points off us. It will be a tough game but the way the boys are playing, I wouldn’t want to lead a side against us currently..."

You must be close to clinching the league now, so you must be hoping too that after the game when you do become champions, the league will have the trophy on hand to give the lads and you some instant pleasure?

"I wasn’t drawn into talking about promotion, the league title or the Cup Final last week and that hasn’t changed this week. All I’m focused on is our last training session this week and beating CT Shush away on Saturday."

You must be itching to get to Sphinx now but how would you assess your season at Warwick, logistically?

"Everyone at the club is looking forward to playing at Sphinx but at the moment the players have nowhere to bond together before the game or afterwards and that we will be a big focus for us next year and with the Sphinx facilities, we have that!"

Who impressed you in your team yesterday, notwithstanding the goals you rapped in?

"Everyone played well but I feel for the replacements who didn’t start, just like it was tough leaving two or three lads out of the entire squad, but like I mentioned last week, it’s impossible to keep everyone happy.

The M.O.M. yesterday was certainly Leigh; he’s now scored 20 goals, has 22 assists, he’s played in 7 different positions for me this year and like I said before, he missed the first 6 games of the season. We share a tough love/hate relationship I think at times because I’m so demanding of him. I always think he can do better. The coaching team is so delighted with him because he never moans about where he is asked to play and his workrate to put the team first is second to none! He now needs to go and get 30 goals..."

Any messages for your rivals at the top, or even in Division 2 next season?

"No message whatsoever, for we will focus on us and just us and I will leave everyone else to talk about GNP for now..."

Congratulations on another fine result!
