NEWARK FLOWSERVE v STOURPORT SWIFTS: THE MOWDOG'S PREVIEW...

NEWARK FLOWSERVE v STOURPORT SWIFTS: THE PREVIEW...

Finally, I get to drive north to the home of Newark Flowserve this weekend, where the visitors are Quentin Townsend's Stourport Swifts for a Midland League Premier clash. Oddly, I saw Newark TOWN last Saturday at Retford United, where a 0-0 draw kept them steady at the top of the Central Midlands South League. Their squad list, as it appears on the 'full-time' website, reveals some names I know: Jermaine Hollis, Massiah McDonald, Romello Nangle, the famous Paolo Piliero, Kieran Wells and Lavell White (THE Lavell White of Dunkirk days???) Hmm, interesting...

I saw a pre-season game involving Flowserve, at Martin Carruthers' Quorn (the ex-Aston Villa striker has since moved on to coach at Ilkeston Town) where they won a crazy encounter by 2-7 and the images below are from that match.

I have seen Stourport three times this term: first a 1-1 draw at home to Worcester Raiders in the Worcestershire Senior Cup, which they subsequently lost on penalties by 2-4, then a 2-0 win v Gresley, before I saw them draw 2-2 at AFC Wulfrunians, from whence the images below are sourced.

Coverage of all those games covered can be found at themowdog.blogspot.co.uk by scrolling down the list on the right side of the main page...

The Highwaymen currently lie 2nd in the league table with the same number of points as the other two teams in the top three. They have won 16, drawn 2 and lost 7 matches, scoring 57 goals and conceding 35. The goal difference is thus +22 and the points total is 50.
KYLE DIXON: FEISTY AT QUORN...

Recently, a win by 1-3 at AFC Wulfrunians, where Zak Goodson smacked a hat-trick, was followed by a 3-2 victory at home against Selston on Tuesday night, fighting back from a 1-2 deficit to snatch the three points. The goals were nabbed by Ben Hutchinson with a brace and also Goodson.
ELLIOT KING IN ACTION AT QUORN...

Four players have scored double figures in the overall goals chart with Hutchinson leading the way, having amassed 20, followed by Goodson with 13, Kyle Dixon with 12 and Dan Meadows with 10.
DAN MEADOWS: LIVELY AT QUORN...

Interestingly, 6th place Swifts' record is comparable to that of their hosts, in that they too have lost 7 times, but they have drawn 6 of their other 18 matches however, winning 12, whereas Newark have drawn only 2 and won 16 of their other 18 contests...  The real difference though is in Stourport's goals ratio, which is 39-33, leaving a difference of only +6, which is 16 worse off than Newark's mark.

This suggests that goalscoring has been more difficult for Stourport, yet they have conceded two goals fewer than Newark in league contests...
SWIFTS' MANAGER QUENTIN TOWNSEND: NICE HAT...

Recently, Swifts have drawn twice at home, first 1-1 v South Normanton, with Matt Fulloway scoring, then a 0-0 draw v Boldmere St Michaels last weekend.
THE INIMITABLE MARTIN SLEVIN: NEVER FAR AWAY WHEN THERE'S A DISPUTE...

The overall goals chart is very different to Newark's too, with Nick MacPherson on 10, Jack Downing 7, central defender Fulloway with 6 and Joe Billingham 5.
