CORNWALL, DAY 6: WEDNESDAY 7th JULY 2020...

Wednesday 8th July:

It had rained during the night and the tree branches overhanging the caravan’s roof dripped regularly to make tapping sounds like those of a particularly annoying walking gull.

It was dull, it was slightly misty but not raining when I collected the daily newspaper and with plenty of mackerel about, several small boats were fishing early, maybe for crabs too.

A decision was made after a drizzly shower of light rain to make a morning visit to Marazion, maybe walk on the beach there and return to Mousehole for lunch but when we arrived, the parking fee was £4.50 near the Godolphin Hotel, so I drove on and made a snap decision to head for The Lizard and Coverack.

This proved to be a good choice of venue, for the weather held and was actually quite pleasant, so we purchased sandwiches, ate them on the beach (watched by ravenous gulls) then walked towards the harbour. It is always a gentle stroll and the quay there is small and protective, caressing a number of fishing vessels.

On the horizon several large vessels, maybe tankers and container ships appeared to be at anchor but clarity was tough, for sea-mist wafted about every now and then. Coverack is a place I like…

Drove back to Mousehole and I ventured out earlier than usual for my afternoon constitutional and despite cloud and some sea mist, the sun strained to be seen, making for a warm walk.

An evening stroll into Mousehole preceded a quick drive into Marazion, where we didn’t have to pay to park the car, which was one in the eye for the masked money takers from earlier in the day… All was quiet at high tide, with St Michael’s Mount clearly visible, which it hasn’t really been for much of the week due to recurring mists.

Back to the caravan and a surprise, for a family from Leeds (originally from Birmingham, which is near Stratford-upon-Avon) had made a curry this evening and had made extra for us… A real shock, as we hadn’t seen them all day and we had already eaten…

So, tomorrow’s meal, then… Looking forward to that…

The family arrived on Monday but very late and their little lad has had his sleep patterns totally messed up, sadly. I chatted to the father while he was tiring the boy out on the site yesterday evening…

Lovely gesture, lovely people…
