The Lizard, The Pharaoh, The Anguish
The profiled mummified head stirred:
Eyes, then mouth opening,
Tearing at its linen strips,
Its anguished expression
Aching for the afterlife,
Though no longer interred;
Straining, demanding, opining
With a demonic impression
Of death and of ancient strife…
Thus the ancient Egyptian’s ire yelled
And on this Cornish headland dwelled;
Upon the rock-face he screams frustration,
A Pharaoh’s craggy lamentation…

Gunwalloe Church Cove had one headland which looked like there was a carved face upon it, a Pharaoh’s visage perhaps…
Strange…
