The Dead Tree At Praa Sands
If ever there was incongruity
Upon a long stretch of sandy beach,
Surely the parched, almost planed
Dead tree at Cornwall’s Praa,
Within a mean tide’s reach,
Is unique in its peculiarity…
Fallen like a tossed caber
From incessant erosion,
It has become a disparity,
An icon, a photographic opportunity,
Its death reincarnated as fame
And no longer a coastal obscurity…
And yes, I too wanted to be pictured
With this pallid landmark, fractured,
For as one burnt timber portrayed,
Its immortality is in danger of being betrayed…

The dead tree on the beach at Praa Sands, Cornwall, fallen due to erosion and now almost a monument on the sand itself.
A burnt lump of wood nearby was rather worrying though…
