Cape Cornwall Totem…
Like the anguished expression
Upon a sculpted face at the crest
Of an Alaskan totem pole,
The crude, weathered, jagged icon
Seemingly screams, bellowing into the face
Of storm, gale and vicious tide…
The agitated impression
Is one of the eternal unrest
Of the tortured Cornish soul.
The wild, tethered, rugged beacon
Sullenly agonises upon Cape Cornwall’s face,
From squall, wind and savage tide…

A rocky formation at Cape Cornwall, seen from Priest’s Cove, reminded me of a typical totem spirit from the top of a pole…
