THE POST COVID CHARITY CUP FINAL: THE PREVIEW...

THE POST COVID LOCKDOWN CHARITY CUP FINAL PREVIEW:

Saturday 12th June 2021 @ Hampton FC…

ALCESTER TOWN v COVENTRIANS

Midland League 2 outfit Alcester won their division in this competition, pipping Knowle FC in the final round of matches by winning 0-4 at Coventry Alvis, thus qualifying for a Semi-Final against Midland League 4 outfit AFC Coventry Rangers, who will be competing in Midland League 3 next season under manager Kev Kingham.

I guess Rangers could be described as ‘Coventry Plumbing Reincarnated’ but they played well in last week’s Semi at Alcester, losing only on penalties after missing two of their spot-kicks, following a 2-2 draw.

Coventrians, from Midland League 3 topped their group in the qualifying stages and thus played the higher ranked Knowle FC at home in the other Semi-Final last Saturday, drawing the tie 0-0 but winning it 5-4 in a penalty-shootout.

JOEL HEELEY, 2ND FROM RIGHT: LEADING THE SCORERS FOR COVENTRIANS...

This Final brings two interesting clubs together and in truth, on a neutral pitch, surely anything could happen…

I saw both of Coventrians’ games against AFC Coventry Rangers in the qualifiers which they won 1-2 on the road in a rainstorm and 6-1 at their Colliery Ground, when it rained again. I was present at their final group match too, a 6-0 victory over Leamington Hibs but in bright sunlight this time…

I covered Alcester’s qualifier against Coventry Alvis, comfortably won 4-1 and also last week’s shootout success v AFC Coventry Rangers…

The story so far for Alcester has been good, winning 8 of their 10 qualifiers and losing just 2, with a goal difference of +20 and a points haul of 24. Oddly, Knowle and Alcester both lost at home to party poopers Fairfield Villa, whilst Town’s other defeat was against Knowle, although the Romans won the reverse fixture.

SAM FITZGERALD: CRUCIAL IN MIDFIELD FOR ALCESTER...

According to the Full-Time website, Ross Dempster leads the scoring with 7 goals, whilst Toby Scott and Reece Jacobs have 4 apiece… Dempster and Jacobs netted the goals in the Semi-Final tie, although striker Connor Deards will likely be a threat against Coventrians, due to his considerable experience at higher levels of non-league football…

CONNOR DEARDS, FAR LEFT: COULD BE A FACTOR IN THE FINAL...

TOBY SCOTT: IN SOME FINE FORM...

ROSS DEMPSTER (9) SCORES AGAINST AFC COVENTRY RANGERS...

Coventrians won 7 of their 8 games in qualifying, with a goal difference of +22 and a points total of 21. Their only defeat came in a 3-2 reverse at Welland, the winner arriving in the very last minute…

LIAM CONNOLLY: QUITE A PRESENCE IN MIDFIELD...

Joel Heeley leads the scoring chart with 8, followed by three team-mates: Nathan Cadby, Liam Connolly and Josh Dixon, all of whom have netted 4 times…

JOSH DIXON: SCORED A SUPERB GOAL AGAINST AFC COVENTRY RANGERS...

NATHAN CADBY MAKES SURE THAT I KNOW THAT HE HAS JUST SCORED...

The match will surely be a competitive and worthy Final but thanks must go to Spencer at Hampton FC, for getting the tournament started and offering a much needed opportunity for players to get playing time and a chance for spectators to watch the game that they love…

Full coverage of the match will be HERE from Sunday morning onwards…

Pete Ray,

The Mowdog…
