Rock Turtle Basking…
A giant boulder turtle basked
Upon its back on Mousehole’s shore,
Cooled by a gentle June tide
In joyous, ecstatic relaxation;
Eddies swirled about its anchored shell, masked
By its upturned belly which bore,
Then brushed the insistent waves aside:
A rock turtle sculpted to an ocean’s specification…

Below the sea-wall along the shore in Mousehole, where a group of sea-battered rocks reminded me of a giant rock turtle lying on its back…
