Deep Amber At St Bride’s Bay…
A setting sun of deep amber began to slip silently
Beneath the northern extremity of St Bride’s Bay,
Leaving a dull matt orange across the clear sky.
A bitter evening breeze chilled the beach stealthily
And colour ran like paint in a stream which meandered away
Towards the low tide shallows, slick, dark and fussily awry…
The disappearing disc glowed deep amber as it clung
To the horizon but losing its grip and beginning to fall
Behind a shadowy skyline of cliffs and hills yonder.
A vessel at anchor lay silhouetted, misted by the ochre dye which hung
But would soon fade as surreptitiously as the sun, the bloated ball
Still evanescing in a weakening display of power and blinding wonder…
