Blue Reflection…
(Inspired by Michelle Underwood’s artwork…)
A hilly lakeside landscape, hewn to bright shades of amber,
Yet its fringes dulled by spiritless blue-grey, casts its reflection
Upon a mirroring stretch of water to form a huge beast, a bulk,
A mass, a partly submerged whale-like hulk,
A tub, a yellow submarine, an incorrigible distraction,
Its demeanour languid, immovable and unbearably sombre…
Fanned by frosted foreground grasses, spidery saplings, blackened
Like trees scorched naked upon a shelled battlefield,
Curl and pester, poke and prod, reach and claw.
Parasites, infections, dark wraiths, each a flaw
Upon the blue reflections, with spindly limbs to wield,
Their animations nightmarish, their anger unslackened…

8th December 2025…
Beauty and the beasts, I thought…
Loved the colours, the harshness, the calmness and the melting pot of ideas, but mostly the saplings…
