Edinburgh Skyline…
(My new poem inspired by a Sarah Evans painting…)
Snow claims the middle ground like a river of white lava oozing and moving
Slowly across the hapless, helpless land, whilst trees, wind blown, appear
To suffer and struggle as they shrug off the clinging, pervading
Flakes and buildings seem to huddle against the elements in fear,
Like a shield-wall defending a Viking incursion…
A grim, inclement sky hovers, heavy and threatening,
As the dark church spire holds the consecrated ground, wielding its sacred spear
And rousing its myriad of front-line troops in close order and chiding
The storm, confident in their faith and piety held dear,
A skyline of fortitude in the face of the weather’s intrusion…
