MY HANDS ARE SO FULL... OLD BIRMINGHAM.

My Hands Are So Full…

Height:
New Street at the turn of the 20th century…
Shop fronts attract
Window shoppers and promenaders
Then rise three more floors,
As carriages pass on the horse road
And the woman in the foreground
Glares,
Contrite….

Rotund:
She peers through spectacles, uncomfortably…
Hampered by skirts wide,
Bonnet unbecoming, hairstyle severe,
Carrying a basket, bags, an umbrella,
As she loiters on the pavement
And the woman, a beadle’s wife perhaps,
Despairs,
Shunned…
