FC STRATFORD v GNP SPORTS: CHALLENGE VASE SEMI-FINAL PREVIEW...

FC STRATFORD v GNP SPORTS: MATCH PREVIEW…

(CHALLENGE VASE SEMI-FINAL, 20th FEBRUARY, 2018…)

This eagerly awaited clash between FC and GNP might just actually be played this week, following three postponements and there is the added spice that these two teams have not yet clashed in a league encounter…
FC'S DAN STOKES: EX-COVENTRY UNITED & WELL KNOWN TO GNP MANAGER SHAMIR ALAM...

FC’s league position is a false one; they have played 6 matches fewer than GNP and with 6 wins from those outstanding fixtures, Stratford could move to within 4 points of Sports’ fine total of 47 points. And with a pair of games against each other, things could get rather interesting…

Currently in 9th place, FC have won 8 of their 11 league matches, losing twice and drawing once, their goals tally being 52-10, meaning they have netted an average of 4.7 goals per league game, whilst conceding an average of 0.909 of a goal per match… Impressive…

Their last three outings have been frustrating for Manager Dave Poulson: a loss at home to Bustlehome (0-2) in the Birmingham Vase, a Les James Cup victory, 2-4, away at Bartestree but then a disappointing and damaging 4-0 defeat last Saturday at Boldmere S&S in the league.
FC STRATFORD MANAGER DAVE POULSON...

Overall this season, Stratford’s recored is 15 wins, 1 draw and 6 defeats from their 22 matches and the goals ratio is 89-30.

Overall, Ash Wilkes has appeared in 20 matches (starting in all of those) and Tom Dyke has appeared in and actually started 19 games.
ASH WILKES: 20 STARTS, 10 GOALS...

TOM DYKE: 19 STARTS...

Leading goalscorers overall for FC are James Gifford with 19, Dylan Parker with 12 and Ash Wilkes with 10…
JAMES GIFFORD: 19 GOALS SO FAR...

DYLAN PARKER: HAS SCORED 12 TIMES...

New signings from Coventry Copsewood, Joe Taylor and Alex Andrews could well influence FC’s advancement in the league as the season wears on…
ALEX ANDREWS & JOE TAYLOR...

GNP’s record, under Manager Shamir Alam is rather good too…
SHAMIR ALAM: THE GNP MANAGER...

15 wins and 2 draws from their 17 matches have seen them blaze the way in Midland League Division 3. Scoring 72 goals and conceding just 14 gives them a goal difference of +58. A goals-for average of 4.2 per game is not quite as good as Stratford’s but they have played 6 more games, I guess. The goals-against average is 0.823, thus bettering FC’s total so far…

The last three outings for Sports have all been victories on the road, conceding no goals and netting 15…

A 0-5 win at AFC Solihull was followed by a 0-8 hammering of Shipston Excelsior, then a 0-2 success at Enville Athletic on Saturday. I saw the Solihull and Shipston matches and full coverage of those performances may be found on my blog...

Goalkeeper Paul Lawrence has started and thus played in 19 matches overall, whilst Charlie Cook has also appeared 19 times, starting 14 of those games.

PAUL LAWRENCE: 19 STARTS FOR GNP...

CHARLIE COOK: 19 APPEARANCES, 10 GOALS...

The overall goalscoring chart is a competitive one: Leigh Phillips, mainly from wingback, has 13, Tom Rawlings has 12 and Charlie Cook has managed 10.
LEIGH PHILLIPS: 13 GOALS...
TOM RAWLINGS: A DOZEN GOALS SO FAR...

Overall, the GNP record is 18 wins, 2 draws and 4 defeats from 24 matches, with a goals ratio of 83-30, quite similar to Stratford’s 89-30…

This match should be a fine advert for Midland League 3 and full coverage will be featured during Wednesday at:
