Fight the Good Fight 3: First World War Postcard…
Spent shells tarry askew,
Yet are seemingly placed upon an unwarlike grassy knoll;
Field gun lies, as if pristine, no recoil
Obvious;
Officer’s uniform fits like new,
Yet seemingly, stress has taken a toll,
For although spruced, he kneels to Christ’s boundless mercy,
Oblivious…
No scorched earth, no smoke blackened skin,
No ruts from wheels, no tension;
No artillery crew, no cover sought,
As if for him the war is in suspension…
A trusting soul, he leans upon his Faith
But the Boche also pray for Christ’s guide;
Both armies fight the good fight, but which, one asks,
Deserves the Mercy? Would Christ decide?
