Turning Unstylish
Languishing behind netting
Stretched above worn, walled compound,
It hid from Black Country regeneration;
Holes kicked through seats,
Windblown litter from streets,
A sense of decay,
Heritage sadly astray:
Rubble and rust and regimented recrimination…
Hanging on webbing
Tethered to dank, woven mesh,
A sign read ‘Carling’, Black Label’s inspiration;
Corner-flag incongruity,
Press-hut ingenuity,
A lean-to of sorts,
Amongst others of its warts:
Impotent and insipid, an indolent incarnation…
