Huddling Skiffs
(written about the April image from Kirsty Elson’s 2020 calendar…)
An overflow pipe lurks
Like a cannon withdrawn,
From a sea-wall worn
But daubed white by the flight
Of a pair of gulls, forlorn…
A vertical post strains,
Holding firm, wild storms to endure,
As a plain cottage stands proud, secure,
Its interior veiled,
Its humanity hidden and obscure…
A pair of skiffs huddle
Upon a worn slipway, hiding
In the lee of the stone wall, sidling
Like homeless souls, abandoned
Near mooring posts awry and idling…

Another fine offering from Kirsty Elson’s 2020 calendar…
