Must have been chosen
For their lack of empathy
And yes, for their lack of conscience,
Wallowing in their own belligerence;
Their staunch uniform power
Inspired awe from gullible draftees,
Excitable and eager in a seething queue,
At whom I shook my head with abject sympathy…
