Gary first of all thanked me for the coverage of last Saturday's last-gasp 2-1 victory over Thornaby Dubliners and summed up the match as follows:
"A pleasing uplift in performance for us, following our poor start...
I thought we started the match really well but it was a new shape for the boys, one that had not been used before, or even worked on in training, so they were having to do it all from tactics sheets in the changing room before the match!
However, when we reached half-time, I was disappointed that we were not leading; you have to make pressure count and not only had we not scored, but we hadn't really troubled their goalkeeper.
RYAN GIBSON (3): SCORED WITH A HEADER TO EQUALISE... |
More of the same but improving in the final third was what was needed in the second-half.
That said, I think one or two of our key players tired after the interval and that let Dubs get on top and they were getting a lot of success from the substitute (James Tattersfield) down their right-hand side, which ultimately led to their goal.
After a couple of prior warning signs we should have been more aware of the danger. However, after Ryan Thompson hit the crossbar, you just think it's not going to be your day, especially with only five minutes left on the clock.
Credit to the boys though, they dug deep and never gave up, so I was delighted when we scored the equaliser and then to get the winner with the last kick of the game was such a great feeling...
GIBSON SOARS TO REGAIN PARITY FOR THE COBLEMEN... |
Most importantly however, our thoughts and sympathy go to the Thornaby number 10 (Craig Linsil) who broke his wrist during the game and needs an operation on it this week.
We wish him him the speediest possible recovery..."
