The Brean Man & The Olive Branch…
Understated, the grimacing infantryman peers,
If passively, towards the olive branch which
He hoists to signify a statement of won peace;
Yet the regimental colours, barely gripped,
Seems carelessly dishevelled and appears
Ignored and unfurled as he stands, ill at ease…
Undersized, the staring infantryman peers,
If sadly, towards the olive branch which
He embraces to rectify the imprudence of war;
Of his weapons and equipment now stripped,
His loss, the pain, the filth and his fears
Fade with time and lichen into Brean folklore…
