The Art Of Residency In A Shepherd’s Hut
(Ridge Lane, near Staithes…)
The art of avoidance is essential
Inside the shepherd’s hut, near Staithes:
Angling one’s torso in flurries and swathes,
In a parody of a Victorian dancer, gliding
And circumventing in a field in Yorkshire’s North Riding,
Experiencing the flow
And performing the do-si-do…
The art of creating space is pivotal
At sink-side in the shepherd’s hut at Ridge Hall:
Placing, replacing, moving and removing items all,
In a parody of a game of chess, contemplating
And reviewing tactics in a tight space and manoeuvring,
Making coffee and tea
And cereal and toast and meals adequately…
The art of extreme patience is vital
Along Ridge Lane, above Dalehouse:
Driving, or rather droving pheasants, which grouse
In a parody of fussy Goathland sheep, pithering
And dashing aimlessly in a narrow byway, dithering,
Running but not flying
And scattering, yet fortunately not dying…

September 2020
Loved this small venue for a holiday, at Ridge Hall, in a field, facing Roxby on the far side of a valley near Staithes, North Yorkshire…

NEAT SEPTEMBER SKY... |
VIEW FROM ROXBY... |
The space is limited, which means slipping past one another becomes quite a skill, as is producing food, hot drinks and washing-up with limited space and yet it was never a problem…

THE SEA AT STAITHES FROM THE FIELD... |
Fine views of the valley are available from the window, even the sea is visible from the field but the pheasants were hilarious…

VIEW FROM THE HUT... |
Why they run in front of one’s car is daft but amusing, when they, er, have wings…

Thanks for a fine week…
