Gypsy Lane will host this clash between Sporting, who have real ambitions for promotion and last season’s champions Cadbury, who will certainly be looking to add more silverware this term.

I saw Cadbury beat Solihull Sporting in a pre-season match last month and despite a weakened opposition outfit, Athletic played some smart football and won the game at a canter, 5-0.

Last week saw the two teams begin their league season and Cadbury certainly roared into action with a thumping 0-4 victory on the road against Barnt Green Spartak.
In the opening minute, Wade Malley’s headed assist enabled Adam Bourn to nod the opening goal and moments later Jeson Dinanga volleyed a smart second. After the break, Cadbury’s MVP Bourn added a fine third goal, cutting inside from the left flank and smashing home a rising drive, before Dinanga completed the rout with a close range finish following Steve Ruck’s run and cross.
The Spartak ‘keeper was apparently in fine form and prevented a more embarrassing scoreline but nevertheless, Athletic sit at the top of the first league standings because of that strong goal-difference…

Sporting also led 2-0 at the interval in their home encounter with Inkberrow, the first being a far post header by central defender Sam Delaney and the second being smartly slotted home by the game’s MVP Tyrone Wilson.
However, Inkberrow rallied after the break and after Jay Higgins-Pugsley had slotted home a spot-kick, a 75th minute equaliser was scored by Ben Thomas.
It seems that the visiting ‘keeper earned his team a point with a string of decent saves on a hot afternoon…
All of the above suggests a cracking match between Sporting and Athletic on an even hotter afternoon this weekend in Kenilworth…
