THE FACE OFF: the robin & the badger at Temple Balsall...

 The Face-Off…

A robin, guarding its territory,

A peculiar stand-off forced:

A face-off with a feeding badger, a few metres away.

It hopped upon a jutting stone,

Almost taunting the mammal, which

Simply ignored the bird, its concern desultory.

Upon the copse’s dry ground coarse,

The robin stole peanuts and held sway,

For its sudden rustling and shrill chirping tone

Scattered the clan of badgers back into their ditch…

The robin was tolerated whilst eating near the badgers but its later rustling sounds amongst twigs and leaves disconcerted the mammals, which was strangely amusing…
