THE 5am BOUT: fighting badgers in the back garden...

 The 5am Bout…

It was 5am and darkness still encompassed

The garden, as light rain fell from grey skies.

But what had disturbed a shallow sleep

Was the screeching and a tussling of badgers harassed,

Wrestling upon the lawn, with vicious cries

And physical aggression, a territory to keep.

Edging towards a fence, one badger was in distress,

Its neck shrugging free from another’s powerful jaw

And hastily it began to dig out an exit route,

Squealing at the silence and under duress.

In its desperate squabble violent and raw,

Its retreat irrevocably settled the dispute…

5am, awoken by the awful, pained screeching of a pair of badgers fighting on the rear lawn.

It appeared that the regular visitor’s ‘domain’ had been infiltrated and thereby it fought for dominance, using its powerful jaw on the neck of the interloper, which scrambled into bushes and clawed a hole beneath a wooden fence to escape into next door’s garden…

Incredible…
