The Blackleg Forages…
It was suddenly close.
The all pervading summer swelter
Began to engender unease.
Then, from beneath the hide,
A masked face, somehow luminous
In the gloom of a garden corner, appeared
And busily scuttled amongst the vegetation
With expression morose
And black legs a-kilter,
Certainly ill at ease.
The foraging badger intensified
Its feeding, cautious stride by cautious stride,
Its early arrival revealing a ravenous
Appetite, as inch by inch it neared
The lawn, enchanting in its hesitation…
