The Stalk, The Uncertainty & The Partial Retreat…
Through the reedy, parched undergrowth with steely
Determination the badger stalked,
Avoiding the feeding members of the clan
And testing the drift of odours with active snout.
Another’s approach was less than freely
Calculated and it clearly baulked
At perceived dangers and began
To sniff and listen and an uncertainty flout.
The third fidgeted whilst feeding and really
Close to my feet it fussily walked,
Until it paused, looked up then hurriedly ran
To safety, alleviating its caution and doubt…

Three badgers at Temple Balsall…
One stalked, one was uncertain and the other retreated a few metres…
