THE STALK, THE UNCERTAINTY & THE PARTIAL RETREAT... (MY NEW POEM ABOUT THE TEMPLE BALSALL BADGERS...)

The Stalk, The Uncertainty & The Partial Retreat…

Through the reedy, parched undergrowth with steely

Determination the badger stalked,

Avoiding the feeding members of the clan

And testing the drift of odours with active snout.

Another’s approach was less than freely

Calculated and it clearly baulked

At perceived dangers and began

To sniff and listen and an uncertainty flout.

The third fidgeted whilst feeding and really

Close to my feet it fussily walked,

Until it paused, looked up then hurriedly ran

To safety, alleviating its caution and doubt…

Three badgers at Temple Balsall…

One stalked, one was uncertain and the other retreated a few metres…
