BRINKLOW FC MANAGER EDWIN GREAVES WRITES ABOUT HIS TEAM'S 3-2 SUCCESS AT PEUGEOT...
"We kicked off the game but it was Peugeot who started the better of the two teams and dictated the play. We struggled to get going and Peugeot took a deserved lead in the 10th minute: 1-0.
It took until the 30th minute for us to work the Peugeot goalkeeper, when both Connor Tallett and Lloyd Pulford forced good saves. Our best opportunity of the half fell to Blake Kassar in the 44th minute when his shot cannoned off the crossbar and bounced clear.
The 2nd half couldn't have got off to a better start for us, with what probably is the best team goal we have scored this season. In the 47th minute a move started by Jordan Hayward, involving Blake Kassar and Tatenda Baku set Lloyd Pulford free and Lloyd unselfishly squared the ball for Connor Tallett to put the ball into an empty net: 1-1
This goal gave the whole team a lift and we then started to put Peugeot under a lot more pressure. We had long range shots from Manny Dhesi and Hosein Khorami that failed to hit the target.
A set piece on 77 minutes from Nathan Stoute saw Macca Richards give us a deserved lead: 1-2
Nathan Ellis was then forced off the pitch with a bloody nose and we tried to hang on to our slender lead. Peugeot pressed for the equaliser and pushed extra men forward and got the goal they needed in the 85th minute, with Daniel Mallinson having no chance: 2-2
Both sides wanted the 3 points on offer and today it was us that came out on top. In the 89th minute a good run from Jordan Hayward forced a defender to foul him in the box and a penalty was awarded.
Nic Whittingham had to wait what seemed like ages for Jordan to receive treatment before scoring the penalty by sending the goalkeeper the wrong way: 2-3.
There wasn't really any time for Peugeot to respond and we got the win we deserved on the day.
In summing up this game:
The players worked hard for each other from start to finish. In the 1st half Peugeot put us under lots of pressure for the first 30 minutes but even though we were 1-0 down we were always in the game and created some good chances of our own.
In the 2nd half we got an early goal and then found another level in our team play which pleased me. To win this game after being pegged back to 2-2 showed great determination from the lads to win a game of football.
We haven't had the best of starts this season but a performance like this today shows us all what we can achieve on our day if we all stick together. We beat a good Peugeot side but it's only one game and this performance will soon be forgotten if we don't perform in our next league game.
Our League programme is now put on hold and I will turn my attention to the two cup games we have coming up over the next two weeks. On to the next game..."
