'SHOT AT DAWN': A NEW POEM...

SHOT AT DAWN…

Wraiths stand, huddled, as if fearing
The infamy, the new found sympathy,
The naming with no shaming
And their long overdue hearing
To court a nation’s empathy…

The spectre understates, as if sharing
The ignominy, the once touted antipathy,
The blaming, the shaming
And the hatred overbearing
To endorse a nation’s therapy…

The rather bleak ‘Shot At Dawn’ memorial at the National Arboretum in Alrewas.
I felt that the poles, which represented each person ‘shot at dawn’ were huddled in abject fear, whilst the white, ghostly blindfolded figure hovered above them, blind to their needs, somehow… 

It was just me, I guess…
