BEWDLEY TOWN v LYE TOWN: THE MATCH PREVIEW...

Bewdley Town v Lye Town: the match preview…

So, it’s a return to Ribbesford Meadow this week to see Bewdley Town in the Premier Division of the Midland League, against one of my favourite clubs, Lye ‘Nobody Likes Us’ Town…

RIBBESFORD MEADOW...

The Flyers play at one of the most interesting grounds in the area and I always love going back there, despite the awkward drive from Solihull, especially for night matches…

NIGHT GAME AT THE HOME OF THE FLYERS...

Both teams have lost twice this term and strangely, their individual defeats have been by the same score-lines. Bewdley’s defeats were both by 3 goals to 0 and Lye’s were both by 3 to 2…

BEWDLEY'S ENERGETIC DEFENDER STEVE CLARKE (2)...

I saw Bewdley play in two pre-season matches, alongside the River Severn, against Alvechurch, which was lost 0-2 and then v Malvern Town, which was won 3-1, two of the goals being nabbed by striker Josh Carpenter.

JOSH CARPENTER (9)...

However, their first proper match this term was an FA Cup tie at Gresley, which was lost by three clear goals. Both Rioual Bakala and Sam Lester were cautioned during the game but ‘keeper Joe Sidaway prevented a bigger defeat by all accounts, as Danny Munday’s hat-trick saw Gresley move on in the competition.

SIDAWAY SAVES A MALVERN FREE-KICK IN PRE-SEASON...

Another journey last Saturday took the Riversiders to Uttoxeter Town, where a disappointing 3-0 reverse was suffered. Joe Sidaway again earned the plaudits for Bewdley, being chosen as his team’s MVP by Uttoxeter.

GOOD HANDLING BY SIDAWAY v MALVERN...

On goal difference therefore, Bewdley prop up the league table, 19th of 19, after one match, never a nice graphic to see, even though in the grand scheme of things it means absolutely nothing…

LYE DEFENDER SAM TYE...

The Flyers’ roster has changed significantly since I last saw them and they played their Extra Preliminary Round FA Cup tie at home against Hanley Town, losing 2-3 to an 87th minute goal by Eric Graves. Lye’s goals were scored by Justice Campbell and Joe Colley.

At Stone Old Alleynians on Saturday, another late goal, in the 84th minute saw them go down 3-2 in the league. Ben Billingham had a busy match, scoring a goal, being voted by Stone as the Flyers’ MVP and also being sin-binned… Hmm, a game to remember then… Aaron Lloyd scored the other goal for the Flyers but both Jaden Owusu-Nepaul and Bekir Halil were shown yellow cards.

BEN BILLINGHAM: AN INTERESTING DAY IN STONE...

This should be a keenly fought contest in some of the best football surroundings in the region. A full independent report, images and video highlights with commentary will be posted at themowdog.blogspot.com from Wednesday morning…
