The Stage-sett & The Chorus
Like a scene shifter, scurrying
Behind a theatrical stage,
An evasive badger began hurrying
Round a marker, the rotund trunk
Of a tree, shading its sett, sunk
Deep into the Warwickshire soil, burying
Such nocturnal mammals, private and sage…
Like a chorus line, swaying
Across a theatrical stage,
Four hungry badgers began preying
Upon a feast strewn ad hoc,
Alfresco, catering for the brock.
Ignoring geese honking and an owl soothsaying,
The oblivious actors munched, privately engaged…

Six badgers appeared altogether last night…
It was reminiscent of a stage-set (stage-sett…)
Strangely, one of the adults wasn’t impressed by the noise made by the unseen geese and nervously dropped into the sett, stage-left…
