Tidal Tendencies…

The high tide lashes flicked edges of foam which reach
Against the black slate defences of Lizard Point, raw
And deflected waves twist uncontrollably in the breeze.
Weakening fingers of sand-salt water creep and claw
At the shingle remaining on a small triangle of beach,
Stretching for a score of tiny stones,
Tumbling and stirring them, then spitting them out
With insolence and such contemptuous ease.
A steady stream runs continuously into the raging sea,
Overwhelmed but battling on as the repulsed tide recedes.
Yet the ferocity becomes beauty in the artistry of the frieze…
