Joop & The Badgers…
It was the Joop balm,
Worn as dusk, breezeless and calm,
Sucked daylight from the stage.
It was the Joop scent,
Amongst damp leaves and branches bent,
Which penetrated the stage…
The odour in the copse manipulated
The badgers’ behaviour, their encroachment stalling;
The after-shave had infiltrated
The woodland, now dangerous and galling
To the mammals, which procrastinated,
Yet with some reservation, began feeding,
Alert, legs poised, then hesitated,
Before retreating along paths, leading
To their sett, where, sniffing the air, they waited…
It was the Joop balm,
Worn as an owl hooted alarm,
Shrill upon the clearing.
It was the Joop scent,
Lingering in the gloom, fragrant
Which intoxicated the clearing…

The after-shave balm, Joop, which made five badgers wary and yet their hunger maybe tilted the balance from fear to encroachment…
