FAIRFIELD VILLA v COTON GREEN: THE MOWDOG’S MATCH PREVIEW…
I saw Villa play against a sadly makeshift Triumph Athletic in pre-season, during which both Connor Perry-Holmes and Luke Dugmore grabbed hat-tricks. These players have both impressed me on previous occasions for other clubs but ex-Feckenham forward Perry-Holmes always seems to score when my camera rolls…

Villa’s season began with a 2-2 draw v Hampton, a game in which George Tolley and Jack Wicketts scored the goals and Wicketts also collected the MVP award from the opponents.

Next came a resounding 5-1 victory over Boldmere Falcons and Connor Perry-Holmes rapped a brace, added to by strikes from Luke Wyatt, Elliott Weston and Daniel Sutton. Falcons named Peter Jenvey as Villa’s MVP.

A 1-3 success at the other Tamworth outfit, Bolehall Swifts followed and not only was Luke Dugmore voted Villa’s MVP by Swifts, he scored a goal too, as did Perry-Holmes and Kian Davies.

On Saturday Villa won an exciting contest 4-3 v Inkberrow, during which Elliott Weston grabbed a brace, whilst Peter Jenvey and George Tolley also scored.
Hence Fairfield currently stand top of the Midland League Division 2, with 3 wins and a draw, their goal difference is +7 and they have 10 points.
Knowle FC have 9 points from 3 matches however, so it is already tight at the top...

The greens started their campaign with a 1-1 draw at home against Cadbury Athletic. Ryan Conlon scored for Coton, whilst Craig Johnson won the MVP award from the Chocolate Makers.

Next up was a 2-3 win at Kenilworth Sporting, who had James Hughes dismissed. Stuart Hendrie, Corey Powell and Conlon netted for the Greens and Richard Hopkins was chosen as their MVP.

In defeating Inkberrow 3-2 at home John Baker, Rich Munday and Joe Smith scored the goals but whilst ‘keeper Bobby Biddle was voted MVP, sadly Conlon, Connor Wright and Zac Harbon were all dismissed by the referee, as was Inkberrow’s Harry Keen.

Yesterday, the Greens beat Coventry Alvis by 5-1, with Hendrie netting a pair, added to by a strike from Jack Doak and two from Charlie Stanton.
As things stand, Coton lie 2nd in the division with 3 wins and a draw. The goals ratio of 12 to 6 gives them a difference of +6 and like Villa they have 10 points.
Clearly, banned players and those on a Bank Holiday break will affect the Coton Green selection for this match but I guess the hosts may also be in a position of having to select from those who haven’t gone off for a jolly…
The two teams at the top of this competitive division should offer some decent entertainment for the faithful and full coverage of the match may be found at themowdog.blogspot.com from Tuesday morning onwards…
