Whitby Abbey & The Erupted Sky
(from a painting by Pat Southern-Pearce )
The grim, blackened silhouette of historic stone,
Its shards impaling a firework sky
Present a haunting,
Eerily daunting
Chaos above Whitby’s lighter tones…
The gaudy, flecked hues over the ruin spark
And regale a kaleidoscope sky,
Presenting a glittering
And glistening
Backdrop to such crude remnants stark…
The grey, sharpened columns of gloom
Rise like warnings into an electric sky,
Presenting a friction,
A curious fiction,
Ruefully heralding impending doom…

The ruins add a sinister lean to a vibrant and colourful painting…
