SCARRED TABLE: A POEM ABOUT LAST FAREWELLS IN WARTIME...

 Scarred Table…

Ebony furniture conforms to regular blackout,

Vacant web shivers, suspended from a naked bulb,

Hovering

Above an omniscient ‘have seen it all before' table.

Rings of grey upon polished wood

Disclose past liaisons, farewells and sadness,

Scarring

Secrets, wholly infallible.

Spellbinding hair slides on slim shoulders,

Damp traces bear witness to pangs and tears,

Grieving

The potential loss and of endurance disposable.

Knowing grimace offered to her flickering smile,

Distress and the uncertainty of seeing her again.

Depressing.

Love development quite unsustainable.

Ebony table stained by one more loss,

Web, plucked, shivers its bitter weave,

Mourning

Sweet desire, simply indestructible…

Wartime.

Another military death, another lover confined to dust.
